"Grey's Anatomy": Still a Hit
Not to Miss
By Kristy Eudy, 09.27.06
As a kid in school, it was never fun to move in the middle of the year and join a new class where everyone knew each other. It was easy to feel left out. If you watched the third season premier of "Grey’s Anatomy" last Thursday, that familiar feeling may have occurred. But there is always the intrigue of meeting the cool new kids. So don’t give up, as “Grey’s Anatomy” is well worth getting to know.
Although each episode is fast-moving with new information, “Grey’s” is still a hit not to miss. The show is centered around Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and her four fellow surgical interns: Izzie, a former lingerie model; Alex, a cocky ladies man; Cristina, who’s ultra competitive; and loveable George who wants to please everyone. Unlike every other medical drama, the storyline is intertwined with the relational complications of each twenty-something intern.
Two seasons ago, the show began with Meredith waking up next to handsome Derek (Patrick Dempsey) whom she met the night before. After rushing off to the first day of her internship, she barely learns his name. To her surprise after arriving at work, she finds out he is a surgical resident at the hospital and assigned as her supervisor. The following two seasons chronicle their hit and miss relationship as we learn he’s had a wife no one knew about.
“Grey’s” is like a good book you can’t put down – with a third season opener that was as satisfying as can be. The episode proved that expectations can be kept high for a show that won’t wear out anytime soon. There is still much to be resolved so hang on and enjoy the ride.
And to truly appreciate the journey, catch the first two seasons on DVD. “Grey’s” is an immediate draw with medical action and appealing character development.
