"Everybody Hates Chris"
“Everybody hates Chris” premiered Thursday, Sept. 22, at 8 p.m. on UPN.

An excellent cast and well written script may make “Everybody hates Chris” the best new comedy of the season.

The show was inspired by the childhood experiences of comedian Chris Rock. Rock is the narrator of this poignant yet comical story of a teenager growing up in Brooklyn, N.Y. in the early 1980s.

The story revolves around Chris, a witty and on the ball 13-year-old who just relocated with his family to the Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn.

Chris faces numerous trials with school and household challenges. His days begin with a long bus ride to the Italian South Shore where he confronts bullies and makes a few friends along the way.

Chris’s parents are strict and hard-working, yet loving and kind. They push him to excel, and remain uncompromising in their parenting endeavor. The show emphasizes that even when hard times surround you on every side, there is a way out. Although a comedy, there is a very serious reality which many viewers can relate to.

“Everybody hates Chris,” UPN at 8 p.m. on Thursdays.
